2024 Summer Dig Camps

The Mammoth Site is excited to be offering a series of FREE week-long educational summer camps for local students as part of our 50th anniversary celebrations. This camp will take students through a week in the life of a paleontologist, from the discovery of a site through preparing the fossil for removal from the site. Students will learn skills such as fossil identification, mapping, proper excavation techniques, and plaster jacketing.

Sessions run daily from 12:30-4:00 p.m. during the course of the week-long camp, with students being encouraged to attend all five days of their camp. Sessions are limited to 30 participants. To register your students for this FREE camp, please email sethv@mammothsite.org with your desired week.

2024 Summer Dig Camps are held in the Lang Family Dig Building at The Mammoth Site of Hot Springs, SD (1800 US 18 Bypass, Hot Springs, SD 57747) and are made possible by the generosity of the Lang Family, Black Hills Area Community Foundation, South Dakota Community Foundation, and High Country Erectors.
