Assistant Science Educator
Direct Supervisor: Science Educator
Job Description: The Science Educator Assistant is responsible for supervising, educating and supporting Mammoth Site visitors in learning about Paleontology and the last Ice Age. Their duties include teaching the content created by the Science Educator, developing additional educational materials and curriculum, and supervising summer programs.
Starting Wage: $16.00 – $18.00 FT Hourly + Benefits
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Help with the creation of education programs
- Implement and support the Science Educator’s lesson plans
- Supporting the visitor’s growth and development in their study of science
- Assisting visitors with assignments or difficult concepts
- Assisting the Science Educator with maintenance of educational exhibits, materials, and classrooms
- Assisting with the implementation of summer programs
- Assisting with educational outreach events and programs
- Other duties as assigned
Required Skills:
- Passion for earth sciences and science education
- Understanding of earth sciences and science education, or a willingness to learn
- Strong computer skills, or a willingness to learn
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral
- Gregarious Personality
Preferred Skills:
- Teaching small and large groups of students
- Teaching wide range of age groups
- Ability to create lesson plans
- Ability to connect earth sciences to a variety of scientific concepts
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Earth Science or related field; or
- A combination of education and experience
